Nojima Jiro
Steel, stone, wood and light. The art of making the eye doubt itself. 鋼、石、木、そして光。目を疑わせる造形の半世紀。
For more than half a century, Nojima Jiro has made sculpture that asks the eye to doubt itself: cast metal that folds like cloth, solid wood that becomes barbed wire, lines of light suspended in acrylic. He began in the Kansai avant-garde of the 1970s. His monuments stand across western Japan. Now, in his late eighties, he has turned to the quiet discipline of pencil on paper.
半世紀以上にわたり、野島二郎は「目を疑わせる」彫刻をつくり続けてきた。布のように折れる鋳造金属、有刺鉄線になる一木、アクリルの中に浮かぶ光の線。1970年代の関西前衛に始まり、西日本各地のモニュメントを経て、80代後半のいま、鉛筆画へ。

Raised in Minoh, where he still lives and works, Nojima Jiro studied at Kyoto City University of Arts and emerged through the Kansai avant-garde of the 1970s. He was selected for the Kobe Suma Rikyū Park Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition and featured by Bijutsu Techō in 1975 among the new generation of Japanese contemporary art.
His monuments stand in city halls, parks and corporate atriums across western Japan. Among them are Flame, a 16.5-metre column of artificial crystal lit by optical fibre at the Mizuno headquarters in Osaka, and Wind, Seven Colors, the glass-rainbow memorial to the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in Kobe.
箕面に育ち、いまも箕面で制作する。京都市立芸術大学で学び、1970年代の関西前衛から出発した。神戸須磨離宮公園現代彫刻展に入選し、1975年には『美術手帖』の「日本現代美術の新世代」特集に選ばれた。
その作品は西日本各地の庁舎、公園、企業アトリウムに立つ。大阪・ミズノ本社の高さ16.5mの人工水晶の柱『炎』、神戸の阪神・淡路大震災復興モニュメント『風・七彩』はその代表である。
The Villaヴィラ
In the rice terraces of Bukit Jati, near Gianyar on the island of Bali, stands his largest spatial work: Villa Dandan Bukit, a four-bedroom house of his own design. Natural materials, open rooms under sweeping timber roofs, and a fifteen-metre infinity pool looking toward Mount Agung.
He spends the Japanese summer there. The rest of the year the villa welcomes guests, rated 4.97 and named a Guest Favorite on Airbnb.
バリ島ギャニャール近郊、ブキット・ジャティの棚田のなかに、彼の最も大きな空間作品が建っている。自ら設計した4ベッドルームの家、ヴィラ・ダンダン・ブキット。自然素材、大きな木造屋根の下に開かれた空間、アグン山を望む15メートルのインフィニティプール。
日本の夏をここで過ごし、それ以外の季節はゲストを迎える。Airbnbで4.97の評価を受け、「ゲストのお気に入り」に選ばれている。
