A sculptor's largest work is usually a monument. His is a house.
In the rice terraces of Bukit Jati, a quiet village near Gianyar on the island of Bali, Nojima Jiro designed Villa Dandan Bukit: four bedrooms gathered under sweeping timber roofs, built from natural materials and opened on every side to the landscape. The rooms frame the paddies the way his sculpture frames light; a fifteen-metre infinity pool holds the sky still, facing Mount Agung.
